Welcome to the first post in this series, From the Streets of Thailand, where I or a guest or both convey need-to-know info on Thai cannabis that is non-existent in print, as far as I know, at time of posting.
The info:
Breaking: Thai police are walking into dispensaries and asking for paper trails that show each strain for sale is from a licensed Thai grower. Right now, they are issuing warnings. As we get close to the elections in May, visits will increase. The end of Thai cowboy cannabis looms. Business is done up and down the supply chain with cash. The sector would do well to evolve quickly and try to stay one step ahead of the regulator and the police. This would be in keeping with the forward thinking nature of the Anutin Doctrine.

My take
Cop visits could be a stunt. If it was, it was a flop, as no media has picked this up. I think authorities are signaling that they will require track and trace for dispensaries in the near future — real incentive for the ones who want to stay legal to up their IT game and get T&T.
